We are proud to share that Mark Child, Head of Sales Work-based Learning and Employers, has been invited to serve as a Health and Social Care judge for Skills Competition Wales, hosted by Coleg Cambria and Coleg Sir Gâr.
Having judged at WorldSkills for many years, this latest appointment reflects his continued commitment to championing excellence across the sector. Mark brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a strong focus on recognising not only technical competence but the professional values that define outstanding health and social care practice.
As part of his judging responsibilities, Mark observes competitors closely, looking beyond practical skills to assess the qualities that truly matter in the sector, empathy, respect, communication and dignity. Watching learners demonstrate these attributes in real-world scenarios reinforces the strength of the next generation entering the profession.
Mark said; “One of the most important parts of my role is ensuring that high professional standards are recognised and encouraged. As I observe competitors, I look beyond technical ability and focus on the qualities that truly define health and social care: empathy, respect, communication, and dignity. Watching learners put these values into practice is incredibly rewarding, and it reassures me that the future of the sector is in capable hands.”
For Mark, judging is also a valuable opportunity for professional development. Engaging with innovative training approaches, new techniques and fresh perspectives from both competitors and fellow judges highlights the evolving nature of health and social care education.
Above all, Mark describes a deep sense of pride in contributing to competitions that celebrate skills and support the development of future professionals.
“Being part of WorldSkills and now Skills Competition Wales is a real honour. These competitions celebrate skills, encourage excellence, and support the development of future professionals. Knowing that my involvement plays a small part in shaping the future workforce makes the experience both meaningful and deeply rewarding.” We congratulate Mark on his continued involvement and thank him for representing the sector with such professionalism and passion.
